Offshore Wind Farm Reaches Full Power

Friday October 31st 2014

Energy Voice reported that the £1.6billion West of Duddon Sands offshore wind farm has achieved its full power output two months ahead of schedule.

The wind farm development, which has the ability to power more than 250,000 homes, was officially opened by UK Energy Secretary Ed Davey yesterday.

Spain’s Iberdrola’s Scottish Power unit and Denmark’s Dong Energy were joint developers on the scheme.

Energy Secretary, Davey, Commented:

“This wind farm will generate enough clean electricity to power more than 250,000 homes and give the local economy a major and sustained boost.

“We want an energy mix that is built on diverse, home grown sources to make sure our supplies are clean and secure. Wind has a huge role to play.”

According to Energy Voice’s report, the UK has installed more than half of the world’s offshore wind capacity to date.

It’s anticipated that the power of wind will play a critical role in hitting the EU carbon reduction targets.
